The Department of Pulmonology is a teaching department of RGSSH and a premier referral Centre for complex lung disorders in Delhi. We receive referrals from all corners of Delhi and offer state-of-the-art services to address the growing demand for specialized care due to the rising prevalence of lung disorders in the area. In recognition of our commitment to excellence, the department was officially elevated to the status of the School of Pulmonology by the Hon’ble Health Minister of Delhi on 15th January 2019.
The School of Pulmonology currently operates an outpatient department (OPD) where we serve between 120 to 150 patients per day. Our OPD caters exclusively to referred patients from other Delhi Government Hospitals. Additionally, we have expanded our services to include in-patient care with a 61-bedded Pulmonology ward and a 9-bedded Respiratory ICU equipped with state-of-the-art ventilator facilities. Our facilities also house an advanced Pulmonary Function Laboratory and Sleep Laboratory. We are actively engaged in various research projects in collaboration with prestigious organizations like Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
At the School of Pulmonologyin RGSSH, we offer referral services and have the latest bronchoscopy equipment and endobronchial ultrasound system (EBUS).We have recently introduced Rapid-On-Site-Examination (ROSE) services to enhance diagnostic accuracy, are offering in the Delhi region. Moreover, our department houses a Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) that specializes in critical Pulmonology cases. We provide both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, advanced bedside monitoring with a centralized monitoring station, portable bronchoscopy ,point-of-care ultrasound service (POCUS),and an Automated Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Our Pulmonology OPD is equipped to provide emergency nebulization,andwehaveadedicated patient education centre. We offer specialized clinics for patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs),Allergic Broncho-pulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA),and Pulmonary embolism.The Pulmonology wards arealsoequipped with bedside POCUS facilities,and eachbed is monitored through our central monitoring station. We also have a dedicated facility in the ward for Inter costal Chest tube drainage and pleurodesis.
Our Pulmonary FunctionTesting (PFT) centre offers comprehensive diagnostic services under one roof, including lung volume studies, diffusion capacity measurements, airway resistance assessments (Impulse Oscillometry),and Cardio pulmonary exercise testing (CPET).Furthermore, our Sleep centre provides overnight polysomnography for diagnostic purposes and titration studies for sleep-disordered breathing.

In keeping with itsmandatefor providing quality training for post graduate doctors in respiratory diseases, DNB Respiratory Medicine course was started with first batch in 2023 with annualin take of 3 candidates per year.
